THIS AUGUST, ShareFest is hosting its fourth annual Summer Youth Development Academy. The success of the summer program in 2009 was only possible through the generous donations from our supporters, and in 2010, the same will be true. We need your help to raise an additional $100,000 to facilitate this year's Summer YDA and make a difference in the lives of 250 at-risk kids.
This year Los Angeles Unified School District, in an effort to close its budget gap, has cancelled summer school for all middle schools, which potentially leads thousands of students to academic regression and disruptive behavior. Summer YDA offers a solution by offering a four-week comprehensive summer program. Due to generous donors like you, for the past three summers we have been able to facilitate a FREE four-week summer academy on the campus of Cal State Dominguez Hills University for youth from urban, low-income communities. This year, with your help, we will send 250 more middle school kids from underserved communities to improve academic performance, become motivated to pursue higher education, discover ways to bring positive change to their community, and become encouraged by our caring mentors to seek positive lifestyle alternatives.
