Principal Scotti from Port of Los Angeles High School visits YDA

Friday was a bit of an art overload. The day started off with an opportunity to paint the welcome sign for one of our amazing sponsors, Principal Scotti from Port of Los Angeles High School. With an early start, and the help of ALL the Junior counselors, we had the sign done in no time. The only thing we didn't quite have down was the hanging of the sign! None of us were tall enough to hang it high, so we had Fernando, one of the several, awesome co-junior counselors, climb on a mountain of chairs and hang it as high as he could. When that was all done we took a group picture in front of our glorious sign along with Anwar, Chad , and Principal Scotti.

Just after that photo, all the junior counselors had an opportunity to get our photos taken by a professional photographer. Felt like high school yearbook pictures all over again! I'm really hoping my picture came out well. Fingers Crossed!

Meanwhile, the kids got to make their very own quilts in art class. Everyone seemed to enjoy it and it was great seeing all the creative patterns all the kids came up with. We sure do have some creative kids! I saw one quilt square with Chinese characters on it. How cool is that? Although it was a lot of fun doing arts and crafts most of the day, a dip in the pool was exactly what i needed. I got the opportunity to help one of the girls perfect her butterfly stroke. It only took 2 minutes for her to get it right! What a fast learner! I remember it took me more than 15 minutes just to get my hands moving in the right way when I first learned the butterfly stroke. After getting out of the pool we were told to go to the lobby for a surprise. I was so anxious to know what was going on. We all went to the lobby and we were rewarded with pizza for doing such a good job these past 3 weeks.  It feels good to be appreciated :)

It was just another great week at Sharefest!
